John Peterson: When I started my first business, I didn't think about insurance at all. It wasn't until we had our first incident that I realized how exposed we were.
Host: That's such a common story. What happened?
John: We had a slip and fall on our property. No one was seriously hurt, thankfully, but the legal costs alone were enormous. That's when I started taking commercial liability seriously.
Host: So what advice would you give to founders just starting out?
John: Get your insurance in order before you need it. Don't wait for the incident. Talk to someone who understands your industry — not just a general broker.
